I
It hasn’t quite been a year since the opening of ooOpsie Daisy, and I finally feel ready to dig a little deeper into the why and the how.
For anyone new here: ooOpsie daisy is a deeply personal project I created with my daughters, a living, breathing exploration of messing up, starting over, embracing chaos, and finding the magic inside it all. It’s a reminder that there are no mistakes in art, or in life. That the moments that feel wrong, messy, or uncertain at first, are the ones that lead to the most beautiful outcomes, connections, relationships and stories.
Last April, we held our very first exhibition and decided early on that this wouldn’t be a “look-don’t-touch” experience. With help from my friends at TJ Dwellings & Design, we built and brought in massive blank wood canvases and asked our gallery guests to cross that third wall and make art with us. But first, those canvases needed a base layer, a little color, a little chaos, and a little permission. So we gathered kids, friends, ladders, spray paint, leftover paint, and zero rules, and told everyone to just… go for it. And did they. Kids on ladders. Paint being thrown. Spray paint everywhere. Total joyful “destruction”. What started as a 9’ x 12’ blank canvas became this wild, rule-bending, technicolor moment that somehow turned into the heartbeat of the entire show.
During the exhibition, we invited everyone to keep the process going. We stocked the space with Sharpies, pastels, and pencils, put up a sign that read “Make Your Mark,” and watched as friends, lovers, strangers, coworkers, and musicians layered drawings, words, and stories on top of one another. The result was a beautifully imperfect triptych—a collaborative expression of overlapping lives, shared courage, and collective creativity. Proof that when you give people permission to play, to mess up, and to be part of something bigger, magic shows up every time. What may seem messy or uncertain at first can transform into something meaningful, magical, and exactly as it was always meant to be. ooOpsie Daisy is a reminder to trust the process, have fun, and celebrate the beauty in the chaos.
